2010 XXXX GOLD Port to Port Variety BASH
To celebrate the 21st birthday of the Queensland Variety bash, 500 bashers took part of a journey starting on the 29th of July to the 7th of August 2010.
This year, Paula Calabretta, one of VoIP’s employees, and two of her sisters, her niece and sister-in-law participated in the variety bash. VoIP, Alcatel-Lucent and others companies have been major sponsors to help them be part of this bash.
The variety bash consisted of successfully completing 6,000Km from “Port to port” in their trusty pink Ford Station Wagon – Car 122. They had to traverse the country from South port to Port Douglas in FNQ, in ten days. On the way down, they visited outback towns and many schools.
The girls managed to raise $10,000 through donations, sponsorships, raffles and functions.
They also won the Team awards for overall best team effort that shows the girls good performance. This award was voted on by other bashers and awarded the day before completion. So congratulation to all of you!
The annual Variety Bash is Australia’s most successful charity motoring event and is the focal point of fund raising efforts by many thousands of supporter’s nationwide. Full of camaraderie and non-stop fun, the Bash is neither a race, nor a rally and speed is not important.
The most important part of any Bash is putting smiles on the faces of the local children by visiting local schools, children and families to grant donations of much needed equipment and facilities in regional areas along the way.
To participate in the Bash, you must have a minimum 30 yr old, 2 wheel drive vehicle and a minimum donation ($7,830). The challenge is also put on by Variety for participants to raise above and beyond the minimum donation.
This children’s Charity is dedicated to transforming the lives of sick, disabled & disadvantaged kids across the state, responding to community requests for financial assistance to purchase equipment & supply services to children and the organisations that support them.
For the year 2010, the variety bash raised over $1.2 million for the children’s charity.
Since the first Queensland Bash in 1990, more than $14 million has been raised, to make dreams come true for thousands of children.
Many companies, industries and school have got involved in raising money for them.
VoIP would like to thank Paula for being part of this event and representing VoIP in this great cause.
